Holi powder action pictures have been on my bucket list for a while now. So when I saw an inquiry about them on a facebook group I am in, I decided this is my sign :D 

I reached out and said I would love to do them, just give me 2 weeks to figure it out with my test dogs first. 


And - pressure! Okay, 2 weeks. I can do this!

First thing first: order holi powder of amazon. Cue lots of reading to make sure I get something safe and vibrant.

Powder ordered, I went down to the basement to build the set, easy enough. Then test shots without powder to get the flashes lined up nicely, to light the dog, the powder and not the backdrop. We do want that dark black background after all. 


After way too many days, (actually only 4) the powder came in and we could do a trial run. Monday is always the first pup up for testing. Certain other household dogs are terrified of the stairs and has to be carried up and down... So she goes second.

First attempt, was, well - anti climatic. 


Basically no powder! 

Next attempt, not much better...

Third atttempt we really commited, and now we had some color flying, but mostly straight down, and definitely not the cloud we are after

A few more tries confirmed the powder is not working. It's too granulated and won't cloud properly.

Phew said Lyra, off the hook for now. Darn said Monday as he was carted off to the bath. 

And I raced back to amazon to order a different variety. For good measure I ordered 2 different brands, and crossed my fingers I ddin't have to wait too long beofre they showed and we could try again.


Almost a whole week goes by, and finally, they arrive and we can get back to work! 

Already on the first try we can see this is it, much better. Monday patiently get doused again, thank goodness for food motivated pups! After he has had a few good runs, even Lyra is escorted down for her own trials.

But we got it, so I reached out again, and said I'm ready, lets do this :) And a week later I got to meet Murphy who is a perfect gentleman, and had just the right amount of bounce to get that powder flying <3
